Information is listed under dragon names and under the names of the dragon programme/film. Dragons that were part of a promotional campaign or product advert do not appear here as an endorsement of the product/service.

A

Angor (Monty Python)
The Dragon of Angor is mentioned briefly near the start of the film 'Monty Python: The Quest for the Holy Grail'.



B

Binky (Pocket Dragon Adventures)
Binky is the youngest dragon from the 'Pocket Dragon Adventures' series. She is green, and her front, and ear and wing highlights, are a purply-pink colour. Her voice is by Tabitha St. Germain.

Clifford (Listerine Mouthwash)
Clifford PicturesClifford the dragon was the animated star of the Listerine adverts in the late 80s and early 90s. He used listerine mouthwatch to prevent randomly breathing fire. Clifford had a nephew called Eddie and was dating a human princess.

The animation was done by Russell Hall, an animator from the UK also known for working on 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit'. The Listerine Clifford adverts won second prize for Category D (short commercials) at the 1st International Animation Festival Hiroshima (1985).

Cuddles (Pocket Dragon Adventures)
Cuddles is the sleepy dragon from the 'Pocket Dragon Adventures' series. He is green, and his front, and ear and wing highlights, are purple. He tends to carry his pillow around with him. His voice is by Venus Terzo.

D

Draco (Dragonheart)
Draco appears in the film 'Dragonheart'. Draco is not his real name - his real name is unpronounceable for humans. He is a computer animated dragon, voiced by Sean Connery.

Rob Cohen (the director) commented about the dragon, "Draco is not solely an animal; he's the first computer graphic imagery actor. He speaks, he emotes, he has feeling, a soul and humor. He's Sean Connery, essentially as an 18-foot-high, 43-foot-long dragon."

Dragonheart
Dragonheart follows the story of a dragon called Draco. He meets up with a knight called Bowen (Dennis Quaid). Initially, Bowen is trying to kill the dragon, but the two come to an agreement. The film was released in 1996 and was directed by Rob Cohen.

Eddie / Eddy (Listerine Mouthwash)
Eddie Pictures Eddie is the nephew of Clifford the listerine dragon. He is described in the advert as "a laid-back dragon with regretably laid-forward breath". Eddie is a purple dragon wearing a black leather jacket and sunglasses. He was introduced to advertise the new coolmint listerine.

Filbert (Pocket Dragon Adventures)
Filbert is the leader of the dragons in the 'Pocket Dragon Adventures' series. He is green, and his front, and ear and wing highlights, are orangy-yellow. He wears a red bandana, with yellow edging, and a yellow star on. His voice is by Ian James Corlett.

Flight of Dragons
Peter Dickenson finds himself transported back in time to a magical era where wizards and dragons exist. He has been chosen by the fates to save the world of magic... despite being a man of science.

The theory behind the dragons flying and the name of the film were from 'The Flight of Dragons' by Peter Dickinson. The story was based on the book 'The Dragon and the George' by Gordon R. Dickson (there are quite a few differences between the book and the film). This film was produced in 1982 for television.

G

Geldon (South Park)
Geldon is a dragon from the adult comedy cartoon 'South Park'. He appears in the episode 'It Hits the Fan' in the fifth season of the show (first broadcast in 2001). Geldon is an evil dragon who is summoned by the over-use of curse words. He is mainly black and purple.

M

Mushu (Mulan)
Mushu is a small red dragon who appears in Disney's animation 'Mulan'. At the start of the film he is a gong ringer. He used to be the family's guardian dragon, but failed in this task. When Mulan goes off to war, he follows her.

Mushu was voiced by Eddie Murphy in the original 'Mulan' film. In the sequel, and other appearances, he was voiced by Mark Moseley.



P

Pete's Dragon
The story of Pete's Dragon follows a young orphan called Pete. He escapes from his adoptive parents, the Gogans, along with his dragon friend Elliot. After reaching Passamaquoddy (Maine) he finds a new home with a lighthouse keeper called Nora, and her father Lampie.

The film is a live-action film with a cartoon animated dragon. Charlie Callas is the voice of Elliot. The character designer for Elliot was Ken Anderson, who has also been involved with the animation in other Disney titles.

Q

Q: The Winged Serpent
This film was released in 1982. Mysterious deaths start happening on New York rooftops... people keep getting beheaded. The culprit is Q (the god Quetzalcoatl). At the same time, a string of ritualistic murders are also happening in the city. Unsurprisingly, the two things are connected.

The dragon himself does not appear very much in the film. When he does, he is stop-motion animated. The creature design was by Randy Cook (Randall William Cook). The film was directed by Larry Cohen and is very B-movie type of affair.



R

Reign of Fire
This is a full-length film about dragons taking over the world. In the not too distant future, humans are struggling to survive after accidently waking up the dragons. The remaining humans live in isolated areas, hiding from the dragons. The film follows a settlement in England.

The visual effects supervisor was Richard R. Hoover. There were no named dragons in this film.

Scarred One, the

Scribbles (Pocket Dragon Adventures)
Scribbles is always inventing things. She appears in the 'Pocket Dragon Adventures' series. She is green, and her front, and ear and wing highlights, are yellow. She carries a pencil with her, to scribble down any ideas she has. Her voice is by Kathleen Barr.

Sir Nigel (Pocket Dragon Adventures)
This dragon has a bit part in 'Pocket Dragon Adventures'.

Specs (Pocket Dragon Adventures)
Specs is the clever dragon (or so he thinks) from the 'Pocket Dragon Adventures' series. He is green, and his front, and ear and wing highlights, are a darker green. He is wearing a large pair of yellow glasses. His voice is by Samuel Vincent.

Spike (My Little Pony)
Spike is a little baby dragon, who was part of the 1980s My Little Pony collection. He came with 'Dream Castle'. He appeared in many of the My Little Pony books and animated adventures. Spike is purple, with green spikes on his back, a pale front and no wings. Spike's was a generally sensible dragon, who had no idea about where he might have come from. Charlie Adler provided the voice in the TV series and specials.

A new Spike appeared in the new pony animations, created in the 2000s. This Spike claimed to be descended from a long line of royal dragons. He is clearly a different character to the original '80s Spike.



T

Tabaluga (Tabaluga)
Tabaluga is the dragon star of the cartoon series 'Tabaluga'. He is a young green dragon, with a pouch like a marsupial. He lives in Green Land, and his best friend is a rabbit called Happy. The residents of Green Land are fighting against the evil snowman Arkatos, who wants to turn Green Land into an ice world.

The Scarred One (Dragonheart)
This is the last female dragon in the film 'Dragonheart'. She appears briefly just before she dies.

Z

Zoom-Zoom (Pocket Dragon Adventures)
Zoom-Zoom wants to fly. He appears in the 'Pocket Dragon Adventures' series. He is green, and his front, and ear and wing highlights, are blue. He is usually wearing a flying hat and goggles. His voice is by Jason Gray Stanford.
