The Near East consists of parts of Western Asia (areas of the Middle East / Arabia) and Northern Africa.

The Hittite Empire covered much of modern day Syria and Turkey.

The area of modern Iraq is in roughly the same place as ancient Babylon and Sumeria.

Benin was previously known as Dahomey or Dahomy.


Ghana, Kingdom of

The Kingdom of Ghana is not to be confused with modern-day Ghana. The Kingdom of Ghana was an ancient African Kingdom, covering parts of modern Mauritania and Mali. It collapsed a long time ago. Modern Ghana was named after it, but is not in the same place.
