Location: Description: Leviathan's nature is a matter of debate. It is known that he is a large sea creature of some sort. A whale is a popular suggestion, as the modern Hebrew word for whale is leviathan. Another popular suggestion is a crocodile, which matches the description of teeth and scales more closely. The fantastical description in Job 41 does not neatly match any real creature. Whether the original writers intended to imply a real animal or not, leviathan has been interpreted in later times as a dragon-like sea monster. Other Dragon Stone Pages: |
