[ Return to European Dragons ]

Location:
British Isles (Anglo-Saxon), Europe

Description:
Beowulf was the hero of an Anglo-Saxon poem, despite the poem being set in Scandinavia. In the poem, Beowulf fights a firedrake that has been destroying the area.

Earlier in the poem he fights two other monsters (Grendel and Grendel's Mother). There have been some claims that these were dragons. There is an essay discussing the monsters in the Beowulf poem elsewhere (see other Dragon Stone pages).
