Description:
It was late in the year. A cooper (barrel maker) from Lucerne headed out to find materiels for his work. Whilst he was searching on Mount Pilatus (Mount Pilate), he slipped and fell into a deep hole. When he woke up, he realised he was trapped... he was also not alone. Two young dragons were down in the hole. They viewed him curiously, but did not try to harm him.

The two dragons licked the moisture on the rocks to sustain themselves. The cooper copied them. In this way, he was able to survive the winter.

Six months had passed and spring was rapidly approaching. The dragons started exercising their wings ready to fly away. Acting quickly, the cooper tied his girdle onto the tail of one of the dragons. As the dragon flew out of the hole, it took him with it.

Having made his escape from the hole, the man headed back to Lucerne and ate a hearty meal. He promptly died as his body was no longer used to such foods.

According to Athanasius Kircher, a monument was placed for the man at the Ecclesiastical College of St. Leodegarius in Lucerne.
