Location:
Seneca Nation Territories, U.S.A. and Canada

Description:
Gas'hais'dowane, the Horned Snake, is a giant serpent with horns. His horns are either said to be like antlers or American bison (buffalo) horns. He lives under the water with others of his kind. Hi'no, the Thunderer, hates Gas'hais'dowane and will try to kill him when he comes to the surface.

The Horned Snakes can turn into human form, and try to lure humans of the opposite gender into their domain. The females are said to try and transform human men by getting them to wear the clothes worn by the snakes.

The stories about Gas'hais'dowane are not always bad. He has been known to rescue woman who are trapped on islands.

Other names for Gas'hais'dowane include Doona'gaes and Djodi'gwado.
