[ Return to North American Dragons ]

Location: Pacific Islands, North America

Description:
Moko, or mo'o is a Polynesian term meaning lizard. It can refer to both Polynesian dragons and any other lizard. The versions of Polynesian spoken in the American Pacific tend to favour the mo'o pronounciation.

The dragon mo'o of Hawaii, and nearby islands, are known to live in pools, lakes and rivers. They are often considered as guardians of these lakes. It is common for them to be able to take the form of a human and a mo'o. The mo'o form is usually lizard-like and can vary greatly in size (even for the same individual).
