Description:
W. D. Westervelt recorded details about Mo-o-inanea in his book 'Hawaiian Legends of Ghosts and Ghost-Gods' (1916). The story was one that he collected and translated himself. The name can also be written as Mo'o'inanea, Mo-o inanea, Mo-oinanea and Mo'oinanea.

Mo-o-inanea, 'the self reliant dragon', brought the mo'o to Hawaii. A mo'o can be anything from a ordinary lizard to a supernatural dragon. Mo-o inanea could appear as a human women or in a dragon form.
