[ Return to Historic Dragon Texts Index ] This is an article titled 'The Serpent Mound of Ohio' which appeared in a periodical called 'The Century' (Volume 39, Issue 6, April 1890, Page 871-888). It was written by Frederic Ward Putnam, an archeologist from Harvard University. Putnam was closely connected to the mound. He was responsible for organising the purchase of the mound and surrounding area so that it would not be destroyed by land development. This led to him excavating the mound and some of the nearby sites. The wording of the article is the same as the original publication. The format has been changed slightly to aid readability. The original article was written as a solid block of text. This version has split it into logical sections (each on its own page). The footnotes have been renumbered. [Currently missing pictures]
