These quotation references are from the NIV (New International Version) Bible. The NIV version used for this site was printed in 1990. This Bible is much easier to understand than older translations, which is why it was used for this study. The translation is also more accurate. Some of the potential 'dragons' of older translations are now known to be other animals found in the region, and not dragons at all. It is thought that the list is complete, but a few quotations may have been missed.

Genesis 3:1-5 The fall of man

¹Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God made. He said to the women, "Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?"

²The women said to the serpent, "We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, ³but God did say, 'You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.'"

⁴"You will not surely die," said the serpent to the women. ⁵"For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good from evil."

Genesis 3:13-15 The serpent's punishment

¹³Then the Lord God said to the women, "What is this you have done?"

The women said, "The serpent deceived me, and I ate."

Exodus 4:3-4 Signs for Moses

Exodus 7:9-12 Aaron's staff becomes a snake

⁹"When Pharaoh says to you, 'Perform a miracle', then say to Aaron, 'Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh,' and it will become a snake."

¹⁰So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and did just as the Lord commanded. Numbers 21:6-9 The bronze snake
