This is the cover to the 'Sea Serpent Polka', a piece of music composed by Austrian pianist Mortiz Strakosch in 1850. The artwork is by J.W. Buford. Though the setting of the piece and picture is not stated, it seems likely it was inspired by the serpent sightings in the Massachusetts area. These were world-famous at the time, and Strakosch was living in the USA during its composition.
