On one autumn's day...

...in 1997 I got internet access. After looking at the source code for other websites I decided to give it a go, and started a personal webpage called Polenth's Weyr. The original site had frames, a black background, graphics drawn in MicroSoft Paint and no real content. The site was hosted on AOL at the time.

It was also around this time I started to look for dragon mythology online. Today there are quite a few sites dedicated to the subject. Back then the results were not good. A few of the very common stories came up, but nothing very unusual. There were also many sites describing dragons that were an odd mix of fantasy novels, games, and the author's own book ideas, with no indication of where what bit of information came from. This wasn't really what I was after, so I headed down to the local library instead. Finding that there were not any specialist dragon books there, I went through all the general mythology books page by page for information. The first dragons were listed on a single page titled 'Some of my favourite dragons'.

The frames had been removed quite early on in the site history, but the basic style was still the same. The site went through its first major appearance change in 2000. The navigation changed to try and deal with the growing number of pages and the side images (still found on the current link banner) were drawn. The site had moved to Demon earlier in 2000, giving more space and bandwidth to expand into.

2000: Site Appearance

A few years after that it changed again to a very basic layout with a white background. Complaints had been coming in that the site was difficult to print, and a bit awkward to read, which was not such a good thing for a text site. The site name was changed at this point to 'The Dragon Stone' as it was no longer really a personal site about me.

2002: Site Appearance

Adding in some time and experience of web coding, the current site came to be as it is. Early 2006 saw the site reorganised and reformatted with stylesheets. In late 2006 it moved to its own domain. The amount of extra space and resources that came with this has meant a big expansion in content, particularly things like pictures and interactive items.
